Kinepolis Jaarbeurs Utrecht
Kinepolis acquired the Wolff group cinema chain in 2014, adding an additional 9 cinemas to their portfolio and in 2015 they acquired Utopolis, owning now in total 16 cinemas in the Netherlands. Further to the existing infrastructure, the agreement with Wolff included two new construction projects, one of which was the megaplex in Utrecht Jaarbeurs.
Project
With 14 screens and 3,200 seats, Kinepolis Jaarbeurs is one of the biggest cinema complexes in the Netherlands. The largest room has a capacity of 600 seats and a gigantic screen 26 meters wide and 10.9 meters high. Furthermore, all rooms feature laser projection technology, offering crystal-clear picture quality. The challenge Fagerhult happily accepted was to offer the right lighting for the right purpose in each area.
Solution
The project consisted of different areas with their own lighting requirements with a specific attention paid to the entrance, refreshment store, restaurant and, of course, the cinema itself.
With a focus on the visual experience, quick installation and energy efficiency, Pleaid Comfort was selected to provide the lighting for the reception areas. In the workspaces on the upper floor, Recesso provides a harmonious office lighting solution with optimum flexibility.
In the refreshment store the focus is on the products, illuminated to be at their most appealing using track mounted Marathon spotlights. Within the cinema screen rooms themselves, Pleiad Comfort, with a black ring accessory, have been optimized for different scene settings programmed using a DALI protocol.
The restaurant has a complete different ambiance. Various pendant luminaires from the Terso series have been adjusted with decorative colours to reflect the different corners of the food court. At the dining tables in the raised areas, Globia provides a diffused round-beam light distribution.
At the food counters, Pleiad Comfort downlights have been adapted with a 2700k, CRI LED engine, the perfect light for enhancing the appealing colours of the food.
