Gotion introduces new battery system with 20 MWh capacity
Leading Chinese manufacturer Gotion has unveiled a new battery energy storage system (BESS) at the International Photovoltaic Conference and Construction in Shanghai, boasting an extreme capacity of 20 MWh for the entire facility.
World record holder
The new BESS from Gotion has a record capacity of 20 MWh, but its specifications and serial production date have not yet been disclosed by the manufacturer. However, during the conference, the manufacturer presented the following key parameters of the device:
The new BESS uses 314 Ah cells with a stated lifespan of ≥ 15,000 cycles and an expected lifespan of up to 25 years. Each battery consists of 104 cells connected in series (~104 kWh per pack); 192 batteries connected in parallel create a total capacity of 20 MWh.
Dimensions of the BESS: 4,600 × 5,000 × 10,000 mm, total weight: about 170 tons.
Liquid cooling with a temperature difference of < 2 °C at the battery level, < 2.5 °C at the battery system level.
BESS is designed to withstand harsh climatic conditions: -35°C to 55°C, dust 5 mg/m³, humidity up to 95%.
The device has seven levels of protection against fire risk.
It includes a voice-activated assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI) for maintenance and service.
What do the photos reveal?
From the leaked presentation and photos, it can be concluded that this is not a standard container solution. This is a high-capacity system that is assembled on site and pushes the boundaries of what is possible for large-scale energy storage.
