Lighting as part of modern public space renovation: Hviezdoslavovo Square in Trenčín
The reconstruction of Hviezdoslavovo Square in Trenčín is part of a broader transformation of the city as Trenčín prepares for its exceptional year as the European Capital of Culture 2026. The renovation of an important public space in the historic center was therefore not only a technical investment, but also an opportunity to create a refined, modern and timeless urban environment.
ECOLOGIC was the lighting design partner for this project and also the designer of the electrical part, including outdoor lighting. We collaborated on the overall concept with architect Boháč, who was the general designer of the reconstruction.
When designing the lighting, it was important to find a solution that would be visually clean, functional and ready for the current requirements of the city. The result is a minimalist lighting concept that respects the architecture of the space and at the same time creates space for the integration of modern technologies without disrupting the overall appearance of the square.
The main element of public lighting was the premium smart modular poles Hess CityElements. They integrate light, WiFi, a camera and a speaker in one elegant element, bringing a combination of high-quality design and technological readiness of the public space. The square thus received a solution that is not intrusive, but at the same time meets high demands for functionality and future development of the urban infrastructure.
The overall concept is also complemented by Hess Accadia ground lamps with special tilting optics, which enabled sensitive work with light in the details of the space. Thanks to them, it was possible to supplement the main lighting with precisely directed accents and support the evening atmosphere of the square without visual overload.
The Hviezdoslav Square project shows that lighting today is not just a technical necessity. It is an important part of the identity of the place, the comfort of its users and the overall impression of the public space. For ECOLOGIC, this project was an opportunity to combine experience in the field of lighting design, electroprojection and the design of integrated solutions into one harmonious whole.
Hviezdoslav Square in Trenčín is an example of how light can subtly but fundamentally shape the atmosphere of a city.
