News: ESA Series ESS GoodWe Three-Phase All-in-One System: Technical Analysis for Residential Projects and the C&I Sect
The commercial and residential storage market demands solutions with high operational reliability, minimized installation errors and advanced software integration. The answer to these requirements is the fully integrated three-phase high voltage (HV) system GoodWe ESA series with inverter power ranging from 5–30 kW and storage capacity from 5–108 kWh. This all-in-one system integrates the inverter, modular battery and intelligent energy management (EMS) into a single standardized package. Thanks to its pre-wired modular design, it radically simplifies logistics, eliminates complex component interconnection and speeds up commissioning.
Inverter Topology and DC/AC Performance Parameters
The ESA series inverters (models GW5K to GW29.999K-ETA-G20) feature a highly flexible photovoltaic input that gives designers a free hand:
MPPT architecture: Depending on the power variant, the inverters are equipped with 3 or 4 independent MPPT trackers with a working voltage range of 120 ~ 950 V and a maximum input current of up to 42 A per MPPT in the highest versions (models 25–30 kW).
Oversizing and overload capacity: The architecture supports up to 200% oversizing of the DC input relative to the nominal AC power and high AC overload capacity in backup operation.
Battery Interface: The system operates over a wide voltage range of 700 ~ 950 V (starting voltage 720 V) with a continuous charging current of up to 40 A and a discharging current of up to 44.1 A for the highest 30 kW version.
Battery Subsystem and 1C Topology
The battery modules (built on the reliable Lynx D technology) use LiFePO₄ (LFP) chemistry, which excels in long cycle life (8,000 to 10,000 cycles depending on the module type selected).
Modular Scalability: Designers have four module variants available with capacities of 5.12 kWh, 6.0 kWh, 8.32 kWh and 9.0 kWh. Up to 12 modules can be connected within a single system, achieving a total maximum capacity of up to 108 kWh.
Unique compatibility: The system allows flexible combination of batteries with different capacities and even the connection of older and new blocks, which greatly facilitates future capacity expansion without the need to replace existing blocks or balance them.
Blocks with a capacity of 5.12 kWh and 8.32 kWh support 1C charging and discharging. This allows for fast energy cycles, which is key for effective coverage of consumption peaks (Peak-Shaving) and immediate response to dynamic tariffs.
Island operation (Off-Grid) and backup
Thanks to the advanced two-port design for backup of the entire facility and the integrated power bypass (dimensioned at 63 A for models up to 20 kW and 80 A for models 25–30 kW), the ESA series operates without additional external components.
Switching speed: An internal switch ensures the transition from network (On-Grid) to backup (Off-Grid) mode in less than 4 ms. The system thus meets the parameters of a full-fledged and fast UPS with a pure sine wave output
High overload capacity: In off-grid mode, it shows high short-term tolerance - for example, the 30 kW model (GW29.999K) can deliver peak apparent power of up to 45 kVA for 10 seconds in off-grid mode for trouble-free start-up of inductive loads.
Safety control, AI EMS and software control
The system meets the strictest European standards (IEC62619, VDE2510, EN62477) and is equipped with a robust hardware and software safety chain:
Active protection: Integrated AFCI 3.0 arc detection and intelligent system protection with the highest IP66 protection. On the DC side, there is a type II surge protection (for 25–30 kW models, even a combined type I + II).
Thermal management: The battery modules have integrated aerosol extinguishing and automatic protective heating. This allows operation without battery limitations even at extreme temperatures of up to -20 °C (the battery is built to -35 °C). Intelligent cooling ensures quiet operation with noise levels of up to 30 dB (for 5–8 kW versions at an ambient temperature of 25 °C, otherwise up to 35 dB).
AI EMS & communication: The control unit is factory-prepared for an artificial intelligence-controlled EMS that optimizes operation according to dynamic market tariffs. Communication with the BMS takes place via the CAN bus, for external integration and monitoring (SolarGo / SEMS+ portal) the RS485, Wi-Fi, LAN and Bluetooth interfaces with support for Modbus-RTU and Modbus-TCP protocols are used.
