The latest innovation on the Slovak energy market

Representatives of ZSE Energia, a.s. (ZSE) and Východoslovenská energetika a.s. (VSE) met with representatives of OKTE and EY to jointly present the latest innovation on the Slovak energy market – the Electricity Sharing Management product. Household and business customers who already use photovoltaics today can look forward to new opportunities in the connection of electricity production and consumption.

The latest innovation on the Slovak energy market

Electricity Sharing

Over the past five years, Slovakia has seen an increase of around 40,000-50,000 photovoltaic installations. Households and smaller companies are becoming both producers and consumers and are learning to effectively handle the electricity they produce. Energy suppliers have caught on to this trend and have brought their customers comprehensive solutions related to the installation of photovoltaics.

“Today, it is important to focus more on business services and consulting, which is why we are bringing a unique Electricity Sharing Management service to the market,” Juraj Bayer, Chairman of the Board and Commercial Director of ZSE Energia and VSE, emphasized at a press conference.

If a customer is unable to consume all the electricity produced in real time, they can share it at the same time. If there are any remaining surpluses, storage and, ultimately, purchase are the options from an economic efficiency perspective.

The basis is the establishment of a sharing group consisting of at least one producer and other consumption points – whether they are households or businesses. A producer, for example a household with photovoltaics, can immediately send its excess energy to parents or acquaintances. Each kilowatt-hour produced will thus be used where it makes the most sense. Electricity sharing is technically provided by OKTE through the Energy Data Center (EDC).

The electricity sharing service, as it will be offered by VSE and ZSE, will allow customers to use everything that is currently allowed by legislation and provided by OKTE. The OKTE Energy Data Center has been providing its services related to active consumers, energy communities and energy sharing since October 2023.

“I am convinced that cooperation with ZSE and VSE suppliers will support the use of our services for households and businesses and the number of people interested in sharing electricity will increase,” said Kamil Peteraj, member of the OKTE Board of Directors.

Unique Electricity Sharing Management

The intention of VSE and ZSE is to make using electricity sharing simple and carefree for customers. The suppliers will relieve the customer of administrative burdens, provide advice and clear reports, based on which it will be possible to further effectively manage surpluses. “As the first on the market, we will provide systematic support to the customer – we will carry out all the necessary steps for establishing a sharing group on behalf of the customer, we will also ensure the selection of a sharing method according to their requirements and prepare a clear report on the shared electricity,” Juraj Bayer explained.

The service will be available to ZSE and VSE customers in the second half of June 2025. “Customers who are interested in the Electricity Sharing Management can contact us through all our contacts,” concludes Juraj Bayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
